Our Juniors have had a great start to the 09/10 season with wins to our 16’s, 14’s & 11’s. Winning the toss and batting, our 16’s compiled 8/185 off their 30 overs led by a “stylish” 57 from Michael Wing and a “hard hitting” 47 by Theo Saayman. Buderim were in early trouble at 3/5 then 4/16 thanks to great swing bowling by Brendan Wilkinson and Theo Saayman. Mitch Corcoran (2/5), Jono Duckworth (1/14), Michael Wing (1/0) and Josh Corcoran (1/12) all chipped in with wickets to have the opposition bowled out for 113. I’m going to say the highlight of the day was the ground fielding and catching especially for the first Saturday of the season. Michael Wing, Alex Bull, Nick Veness, Theo Saayman and Zac Clune, all sensational!! The 14’s bowling first on a good Sportsground wicket contained Maroochydore to 1/61 after 15 overs then “lifted” for the 2nd 15 overs to have Maroochydore 8/147 after their 30 overs. Joel, Soul, Riaan, and Declan all contained the batsmen however it was Otis (2/12) and Neels (2/17) who ended up with the figures. 148 was always going to take some getting however an excellent opening partnership of 97 from Josh Bateman (29) and Riley Brooks (43) put the home team on the front foot however a loss of wickets saw Palmwoods collapse to 6/113 but a “polished’ 35no from Joel Timmins supported by Neels 9no saw the home team reach the opposition score in the 29th over. A good win against a good side first up! Our U12’s went to Landsborough with only 7 players and put in an outstanding effort against a full strength Buderim side. Buderim batting first made 3/144 however as you can imagine our kids had plenty of ground to cover and bowled and fielded really well to keep them to 144. Well done to Benny, Sam and Philip who all took wickets. The goods news was that we batted out our 25 overs to finish at 5/98 highlighted by a very “impressive” 29no from Sam Shave. Welcome to Palmwoods Sam. Philip McGregor made a fine 10. Although beaten, far from disgraced and with a few more players we’ll be more then competitive. Our U11’s batted first and compiled a very competitive 103 off their 20 overs led by Callum Timmins and Hayden Guest who both retired with 24 and 16 respectively. Grayson Mathews with 9no and Brendan Kelbie 7no ensured we batted out our overs. Given the new ball, Grayson Matthews and Nick Morse “ripped” through the top order to have Grammar in real trouble at 3/12. Grammar fought on hard but were all out for 59 in the 12th over. Grayson, Nick, Callum, and Lachlan all took wickets however it was the great effort in the field led by Martyn and Brendan that really kept the pressure on the opposition. Well done to all the kids. The 1st game is always difficult especially when we’re down on numbers. If you do know of anyone who wants to play please bring them along to training, we would love to see them. |
