U10’s v’s Grammar 16/10/09

Palmwoods  133 def Sunshine Coast Grammar 112, in our first home game of the season. Palmwoods fielded first taking 6 wickets in total. Our wicket takers  were Oliver 1/3, Brady 1/5, Hayden Gesler 1/6 and Nathan 1/9. In the field we saw some sensational fielding and some awesome catches. The catches were taken by Brady, Byron and Oliver. A fantastic effort from all the boys.

Palmwoods then went in to bat with everyone contributing to the score. Nathan top scored with 25, followed by Hayden Guest with 15, Brady with 14 and Blake with 10. Well done Palmwoods.

U10’s v’s Buderim Maroon 23/10/09

Round 3 saw a very determined Palmwoods team go down 118 to 125 against Buderim Maroon. Our top scorers this week were Byron 13, Hayden Guest 10 and Nick 9. With our turn to bowl a very good effort on a small ground saw the figures of 2/4 for Nathan, 2/16 for Blake, 1/0 for Hayden Guest and 1/6 for Oliver. A good all round effort in the field and an improvement shown since the beginning of the season. 

U11’s v’s Buderim 24/10/09

This week, the under 11’s played at Buderim.  We batted first with a slow but sure start.  Our first wicket fell in the 4^th over, follow with one in the next, and another in the 8^th.  The boys steadied themselves, with Brendan Kelbie and Lachlan Guest lasting their 30 balls.  A great improvement was seen by Zack Maas who almost lasted his 30 balls.  Palmwoods ended their innings on 6 for 91, their second highest score for the season.  Although everyone worked hard in the field they were unable to get a wicket until the 13^th over.  This came with some great teamwork to achieve a run out.  Three overs later they obtained another wicket with a great catch off a fast moving ball by Martyn York.  Buderim ended their innings on 2 for 116.  The boys welcomed  James Potts back to the Club.  We also saw Nathan Eggleston from under 10’s as a fill-in player.  Its nice to see the under 10’s taking a chance and stepping up to under 11’s, to help us out. 

U 16’s v’s Maroochydore Yellow 17^th & 24^th of October

Maroochydore won the toss and elected to bat on a very good Briggs wicket. Tight bowling and some excellent fielding had the visitors struggling at 2 for 41 after 20 overs . Maroochydore recovered in the middle of the innings and reached 6 for 154 before Palmwoods took back control bowling out Maroochydore for 179. Highlight of the morning was again the fielding. Nick, Ben, Morgan, James and Riley Brooks all took sensational catches. Pick of the bowlers were Theo 3/8, Brendan 2/27 and Jono 2/31. Alasdair, James and Soul Cormick all chipped in with wickets. Nick and Morgan survived 10 overs to have Palmwoods 0/26 at stumps. Down a couple of players, Palmwoods now had to reach the target with only 8 wickets available.  2 run outs saw the home team under pressure at 3 for 90 however an outstanding innings from Alex Bull well supported by Nick 20, Alasdair 29 and Theo 18 put Palmwoods back in control before a middle order collapse had us at 6 for 160 still requiring 20 with only 2 wickets in hand. James (15no) joined Alex and the pair saw Palmwoods reach the target with only 1 over to spare. Alex finished with 75no. Batting a 2^nd time, Maroochydore finished at 3 for 54 with Morgan taking all 3 wickets courtesy of 3 Nick Veness stumpings. Soul and Riley opened the bowling and showed plenty of “zip” for U14’s. Another good win played in great spirit against a young Maroochydore side with plenty of potential. Many thanks to Josh, Soul, Riley and Joel who stepped up from the 14’s to help out. It’s great that we have so many kids with so much potential.
